ReAlta Life Sciences is officially part of Team Hope!
We are extending our gratitude to the Hope for HIE team for organizing HIE educational events throughout the month. April is HIE Awareness Month, and Team Hope works to increase awareness and bring a voice for children with HIE and their families. ReAlta stands with you as a member of Team Hope. HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy), is a debilitating disease effecting millions of babies globally each year. HIE is caused by acute loss of blood and oxygen flow to a baby’s brain during childbirth or during pregnancy. The deprivation of oxygen and blood causes cells in the baby’s developing brain to rapidly decay and then die. The oxygen deprivation that causes HIE is usually caused by obstetric complications during the labor and delivery process, but it can also result from prenatal complications or events. Other terms used for HIE include birth asphyxia, perinatal asphyxia, and neonatal encephalopathy. Many of these infants will die after birth or suffer permanent, life-long brain damage, such as severe mental deficiencies, or cerebral palsy, or both. HIE is emotionally and financially devastating for the families these babies too. Worldwide, HIE is among the top three causes of infant death. ReAlta is working hard on advancing our EPICC platform as a potential therapy for HIE and welcomes this opportunity to offer a message of support for and solidarity with the HIE community. We hope to increase awareness of this disease and one day develop more therapeutic options for those desperately in need.
