Lewis T. “Rusty” Williams, MD, PhD is an accomplished entrepreneur, executive and board member in the life sciences space. Dr. Williams is Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Ten 30 Biosciences, Inc, and is the Chairman of the Research Committee of the Protagonist Therapeutics Board. Prior to this he founded and served as Chairman, & CEO of Five Prime Therapeutics, Inc., a public biotechnology acquired by Amgen. He was a Co-Founder of Cor Therapeutics, a public biotechnology company which was acquired by Millenium. He held senior management positions and a board seat at Chiron Corporation, now known as Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc. He held board seats at Beckman Coulter, Inc. and multiple additional public and private biotechnology companies.
Dr. Williams was a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and served as Director of the University's Cardiovascular Research Institution and Daiichi Research Center. Throughout his tenure at UCSF, he was an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Williams also has served on the faculties of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital where he trained in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Williams received a B.S. from Rice University and an M.D. and a Ph.D. from Duke University and served on the Boards of Trustees of both institutions, as well as the Berklee College of Music.
